Always striving to improve our “Green Hotel” practices, we considered eliminating the wasteful microwave popcorn-in-a-bag snacks. But the problem is, popcorn is such a comforting, simple snack, and people seem to love it so we didn’t want to drop it. In fact, earlier this year, CNN posted the results of study that showed popcorn is not only good fiber, but is packed with antioxidants as well.
When we saw Michael Gregor’s short video on a study that proves the artificial butter flavoring diacetyl has been linked not only to deaths of workers handling the chemical, but also to serious lung disease in consumers of microwave popcorn, we knew it was time to eliminate the nasty chemicals from our offerings.
But our guests will still be able to enjoy freshly-popped corn any time they’d like. We have a new air-popper in the Upper Tucker House guest kitchen, and Chef Molly has developed a tasty salt-free seasoning blend. The popcorn station is also set up with finely ground sea salt, extra virgin olive oil, and truffled olive oil so you can season to your personal taste. By the way, if you haven’t tried extra virgin olive oil on your popcorn yet, you’re in for a taste sensation; it’s much lighter than butter, so the flavor of the organic corn really shines. You’ll find popcorn bowls in the cabinets too.
So enjoy this guilt-free snack in good health!
