Friday Harbor Hotels Washington – Harrison House

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Carlton, one of our guests last week, sent us these pictures of Erin and Shay preparing breakfast. Erin is laying out strips of bacon.

Shay is cutting parchment paper for a walnut cake.

This is a picture from Carlton’s Suite with the roses he gave his wife for their anniversary. They are still blooming beautifully in our Garden Cafe – almost 1 week later. In the foreground is their personally autographed copy of La Cucina Anna Maria: Good Life Recipes from San Juan Island and in the background the Inn’s cozy monogrammed bathrobes.

Erin, our new innkeeper, and her two girls are settling in nicely to their new home in Friday Harbor. It is not easy getting two 2 year olds in the same photo. (Maya, Erin and Lily from left to right.)

Community Jam

Innkeepers don’t get out much during summer and sometimes even during the winter. But here we are – all four of us – away from the Inn together!

I remember our first four winters after we moved to the Island. We never saw the light of day. We were always working – tearing up something and putting in something. We still spend winters doing renovations and making improvements, but now with Erin and Shay we can take advantage of some play time.

We had the pleasure of attending this ‘Rhythm Jam’ presented by Source Consulting. It was also a treat to get to know the Kenya and Maketa (left) when they stayed with us at the Harrison House.

Kenya and Maketa were here on San Juan Island for 3 days doing presentations for youth in our schools. Our community session, with over 150 in attendance – each with our own drum – showed the power of the individual voice and that of the whole. I am not quite ready to trade in my flute for a drum. We all had smiles ear to ear as we looked around the room and made fabulous ‘music’ with our neighbors and friends on the Island.

San Juan Island Inns – Friday Harbor, WA Harrison House

The Harrison House and Tucker House welcome Erin, our new innkeeper. Erin moved to Friday Harbor from Maryland. There seems to be a trend here. We are so thrilled to have here. Erin and Shay are for sure the Inn’s dynamic duo! The next picture – not our dynamic duo, but Lilly and Maya – Erin’s two dogs.

Lilly & Maya have settled into their new home quite nicely after a week long journey across the country. Here they are peeking out a window keeping watch over the Inns. Mollie, the Inn’s assistant innkeeper, wants to let the two new arrivals know she is not ready for retirement or to relinquish any of her innkeeper duties anytime soon. Even though Mollie turns 13 next month, she still greets all of our guests with one of her many balls and a wagging tail.

Harley, Erin’s cat, stays behind the scenes.
