Why Make Vlogs?

Written by Susan Miesch Published on September 7, 2017

Vlogs: A way to get a message across and have a blast doing so. I know you can write a blog and you can create a diary, but why not kick it up a notch and video tape your message? In a video, there is no need to concentrate on being grammatically correct. Heck! My English teacher would completely agree that I should stick to videos. Sometimes when I want to share a thought or show off a part of the San Juan Island Inn Collection, it just seems so much easier to “act it out”. You see, I might just be a closet performer. Okay okay, so maybe I’m not so closeted. I so enjoy making people smile in 2 minutes or less.

Ahaaaa, “Heeellllloooooo, Susan here from the San Juan Island Inn Collection, which includes the Tucker House Inn, Harrison House Suites and Coho Restaurant.” What a hoot!

Think about YouTube and what it does nowadays. Good grief! You can look everything up. Including how to change an inside washer on a kitchen sink faucet or how to clip your 25 year old cat’s toenails. So why can’t you send a creative message out that explains where you work and what you do? Or invite viewers to come and experience your place of work?

Boy, Times Have Changed

Marketing now is so much more fun and in my opinion. It is so interactive! There are so many ways to grab your audience’s attention and help them remember your message. I remember the good ole days when you watched a 30 second commercial with a snappy jingle and you would find yourself whistling that jingle for the next two weeks. Great! Now I’m dating myself. “I am stuck on band aid brand cause band aide stuck on me.” or “Oh I’d love to be an Oscar Meyer Wiener, that is what I truly like to be, cause if I were an Oscar Meyer Wiener, everyone would be in love with me.” Now, see how those jingles stick in your mind? Okay so this is directed for a specific generation I suppose. Anyways, I’ll continue on.

Humor, cute lyrics, and fun messages are more memorable. And to that I say, bring it on! It’s my vlog and I can do what I want with it. You’ll have to humor me though. I enjoy making my vlogs as quirky and weird as I am! By the way, you won’t hear a rapid disclaimer at the end of my vlogs letting you know that the more vlogs you watch, the worse the stitch in your belly may be. Or that it could lead to a deep and uncomfortable aching throughout your face cheeks and mouth. Phew! Thank goodness for that. But if that is a concern of yours, just know that all Hospitality Vignettes by Susan are doctor approved and medically harmless.

What’s the Bottom Line?

Okay so my editor is telling be to wrap this up and get back to the point now. So back to the collection vlogs I so very much enjoy doing. Why not? They are fun, I enjoy them, the message is relayed in a positive way, and they seem to be getting some traction. If that continues, so will I.

I guess it is time for me to sign off on this blog and prepare to shoot yet another vlog. Thinking of hitting the sky on a plane to share the amazing view of the islands or perhaps an in-depth conversation with San Juan Islands very own resident camel Mona. Good grief, so much to do in so little time.

Please keep watching so I can keep having fun! Oh, and come visit us at the San Juan Island Inn Collection and give me a big ol’ “hellllloooooooooooooo”!
